OrangeBio Composting Guide

How to Use & Compost Your OrangeBio Bags

What Makes OrangeBio Bags Compostable?

OrangeBio bags are made from 100% plant-based, renewable materials—not traditional plastic.
They contain zero polyethylene, leave no toxic residue, and generate no microplastics.

All OrangeBio products follow strict global standards:

  • DIN CERTCO EN 13432

  • OK Compost INDUSTRIAL

  • OK Compost HOME

  • BPI Certified

When composted properly, OrangeBio bags turn into:
✔ CO₂
✔ Water
✔ Nutrient-rich humus

—typically within 90–180 days, depending on composting conditions.

How to Use OrangeBio Compostable Bags

1. Store Properly

To maintain optimal strength:

  • Keep in a cool, dry place

  • Avoid sunlight and heat sources

  • Recommended temperature: below 77°F (25°C)

2. Line Your Bin

Suitable for:

  • Kitchen organics

  • Yard waste (for home-compost bags)

  • Retail produce

  • Pet waste (check local compost rules)

  • Commercial food prep

3. Fill with Organic Materials Only

Accepted in compost:

  • Fruits & vegetables

  • Coffee grounds & tea bags

  • Bread, pasta, grains

  • Paper towels & napkins

  • Leaves & yard debris (for home compost SKUs)

Not accepted:

  • Plastics

  • Glass, metals

  • Chemicals or oils

  • Diapers

  • Non-organic trash

4. Tie & Transfer

When full:

  • Tie loosely (allows airflow)

  • Place into:

    • Your home compost,

    • Green waste bin, or

    • Industrial composting facility, depending on local rules.

Home Composting (For Home-Compostable Bags)

🔸 Balance Your Pile

Mix:

  • Greens (food scraps)

  • Browns (paper, dry leaves, cardboard)

Ideal ratio: 1 part greens to 2 parts browns

🔸 Tear for Faster Breakdown

Cut or tear the bag into smaller pieces before composting.

🔸 Monitor Moisture

Your compost should feel like a wrung-out sponge.

Add water if dry.
Add browns if too wet.

🔸 Turn Regularly

Aerate every 1–2 weeks to support healthy microbes.

Home compost breakdown: ~90–180 days depending on climate.

Industrial / Municipal Composting

Industrial compost facilities maintain high temperatures (55–65°C / 130–150°F), enabling faster breakdown.

Ideal for:

  • Restaurants

  • Hotels

  • Grocery stores

  • Food service operators

  • Municipal green waste programs

Industrial composting typically decomposes OrangeBio bags within 90 days.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overfill bags

  • Empty food waste every 2–3 days

  • Avoid sharp objects

  • Use a ventilated food scrap bin

  • Store unused bags in cool, dry areas

What Happens After Composting?
